Govt Working Out Supply Plans Amid Global Energy Tensions: Goyal

News Report for Y-Trendz

The Union Government is actively working out additional supply arrangements to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability in India amid growing global energy uncertainty triggered by the West Asia conflict. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said the Centre is

closely monitoring the evolving situation and coordinating with relevant departments to safeguard domestic energy supplies.

Speaking to the media in Tiruchirappalli, the minister reassured citizens that India is not facing any shortage of fuel, even as geopolitical tensions raise concerns about disruptions in global oil and gas markets.

“There is absolutely no shortage of fuel. More details are being worked out. A serious war is going on, so naturally concerns arise. Relevant departments will keep informing the public as needed. They are monitoring the situation very closely,” Goyal said.

Government Monitoring Energy Situation

The government’s reassurance comes at a time when the conflict in West Asia has created uncertainty in global energy supply chains, particularly around key shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz. The Centre has stepped up monitoring of fuel imports, refining capacity, and domestic distribution networks to prevent any supply disruption.

Officials said multiple ministries, including petroleum and commerce, are coordinating with oil marketing companies and refineries to maintain steady supplies of petrol, diesel, and cooking gas across the country.

Measures to Stabilise LPG Supply

To further strengthen domestic supply, the government has invoked provisions under the Essential Commodities Act to regulate the distribution of natural gas and petroleum products. Refineries and petrochemical plants have been directed to maximise production of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and divert certain hydrocarbon streams to the LPG pool to ensure households receive adequate cooking gas.

Authorities have also prioritised LPG availability for domestic consumers over commercial users in order to prevent shortages affecting households.

Strategic Reserves and Import Diversification

India’s energy strategy in recent years has focused on building buffers against global supply shocks. The country maintains strategic petroleum reserves and sources crude oil from a wide range of suppliers including Russia, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas.

Government sources say this diversified import strategy allows India to adjust quickly if disruptions occur in any particular region.

Assuring Consumers

The government has urged citizens not to panic or hoard fuel, stressing that supply chains remain functional and that petrol pumps and LPG distributors are receiving regular deliveries.

Energy analysts note that while global oil prices may remain volatile due to geopolitical tensions, India’s current stock levels and supply management measures provide a significant cushion against immediate shortages.

With global developments still unfolding, the Centre has indicated that it will continue reviewing the situation on a daily basis and will take additional steps if required to protect India’s energy security.

For now, the government’s message remains clear: fuel supplies are stable, and contingency plans are being worked out to address any future disruptions.
