PM Modi Assam Visit

PM Modi Assam Visit Begins

Excerpts by Y-Trendz

Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a two-day official visit to the northeastern state of Assam on Friday, marking another major push for infrastructure, connectivity, and development projects in the region. The visit is significant both economically and politically as

several large-scale projects worth tens of thousands of crores are being launched across the state.

Below are key excerpts and highlights from the visit.

Major Development Push

During the visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate, dedicate, and lay the foundation stone for projects worth more than ₹47,600 crore across the cities of Kokrajhar, Guwahati and Silchar. These initiatives cover sectors such as transport infrastructure, railways, waterways, and energy.

Government officials say the projects are aimed at strengthening connectivity in Northeast India, boosting economic activity, and improving regional integration with the rest of the country.

Infrastructure and Connectivity Projects

Among the key initiatives planned during the visit:

  • Foundation stone for Assam Mala 3.0 road infrastructure projects.

  • Launch of multiple flyovers, bridges, and road expansion works in the Bodoland Territorial Region.

  • Flagging off three new train services, including connections between Guwahati and other major cities in eastern India.

  • Foundation stone for a railway periodic overhauling workshop in Kokrajhar to strengthen rail infrastructure.

These projects are expected to significantly improve mobility and logistics in the region, which has historically faced connectivity challenges.

Focus on Farmers and Welfare Programs

Another key highlight of the visit is the release of the 22nd installment of the PM-KISAN scheme, benefiting over 9.3 crore farmers across India through direct financial support.

The move reinforces the government’s emphasis on agriculture and rural welfare while also sending financial assistance directly to farmers’ bank accounts.

Economic and Strategic Significance

Officials say the development initiatives are part of the broader national strategy to accelerate economic growth in Northeast India. Improved infrastructure is expected to:

  • enhance trade and transport links

  • promote tourism and industry

  • create employment opportunities

  • strengthen national integration of the region

Large investments in railways, highways, and waterways are designed to make the Northeast a key gateway for India’s connectivity with Southeast Asia.

Political Context

The visit also comes ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections in Assam, giving the event additional political significance. Analysts say development announcements and public outreach are likely to play an important role in shaping the political narrative in the state.

This is reportedly one of several recent visits by the Prime Minister to Assam, highlighting the region’s growing importance in national politics and development planning.

Day Two Agenda

On the second day of the visit, the Prime Minister is expected to travel to Silchar, where he will launch and dedicate additional projects worth over ₹23,000 crore, further expanding the development package announced during the visit.
