Iran Issues "Security for All or None"

Regional Alert: Iran Issues "Security for All or None" Ultimatum as U.S. Enforces Naval Blockade

TEHRAN / WASHINGTON — April 13, 2026 — The Persian Gulf has reached a perilous flashpoint as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian Armed Forces

issued a stark regional ultimatum today: maritime security in the Gulf will exist "for everyone or for no one."

This declaration follows the United States’ formal initiation of a naval blockade targeting all Iranian ports, a move ordered by President Donald Trump after high-stakes peace negotiations in Islamabad collapsed without a deal.

The "Port for Port" Warning

In a statement released via the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, Tehran warned that if its own maritime commerce is strangled by the U.S. blockade, no other port in the region—spanning from the United Arab Emirates to Saudi Arabia—will remain secure.

"The security of ports in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman is either for everyone or for no one. If the security of the ports of the Islamic Republic of Iran is threatened, no port in the region will be safe."

Military analysts suggest this "asymmetric" doctrine signals a potential shift from targeting individual ships to direct strikes on port infrastructure, similar to recent incidents at Jebel Ali Port in Dubai and Mina Salman in Bahrain.

The U.S. Naval Blockade Begins

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) officially began enforcing the blockade today at 10:00 AM ET (5:30 PM Tehran time). The directive involves:

  • Impartial Enforcement: Blocking all vessels, regardless of nationality, from entering or exiting Iranian ports.

  • Anti-Toll Interdiction: U.S. forces have been ordered to interdict any ship in international waters found to have paid "illegal tolls" to Iran for passage.

  • Mine Clearance: Two U.S. destroyers have reportedly entered the Strait of Hormuz to begin clearing sea mines previously laid by the IRGC.

Escalation in the Strait of Hormuz

Despite the U.S. presence, the IRGC maintains that the Strait remains under its "smart management." They have warned that any military vessel approaching the waterway will be viewed as a breach of the fragile (now effectively defunct) ceasefire and will be met with a "deadly vortex" of retaliation.

The impact on global energy has been immediate. Oil prices surged over 7% today, with Brent crude jumping past $102 a barrel as commercial traffic through the world's most vital energy artery has virtually ground to a halt.

The Regional Fallout

AspectCurrent Status
ShippingLloyd’s List reports "all traffic" in the Strait has stopped; over 150 tankers are currently anchored in open waters.
MilitaryIRGC has reportedly fired over 1,000 missiles and UAVs at regional assets since the conflict began.
DiplomacyNegotiations in Islamabad failed after Iran accused the U.S. of "shifting goalposts" regarding its nuclear program.

Iran has further threatened to activate the Houthi rebels in Yemen to resume attacks in the Bab al-Mandeb waterway, potentially closing both the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea to international shipping simultaneously.
