Fresh tensions have gripped West Asia as reports emerge that the United States is weighing a new round of military strikes on Iran amid stalled peace negotiations and growing frustration inside the White House. Multiple international media reports suggest that President Donald Trump has been consulting top national security officials while reviewing military options against Tehran.
According to reports from Axios and CBS cited by several global publications, the U.S administration has not yet taken a final decision, but discussions regarding possible targets and military readiness are said to be underway. The developments come during a fragile ceasefire phase following months of military confrontation in the Gulf region and around the Strait of Hormuz.
President Trump reportedly cancelled personal travel plans and chose to remain in Washington, signalling the seriousness of the situation. Senior officials including Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, intelligence chiefs, and strategic advisers are believed to have attended high-level meetings focused on Iran’s military posture and ongoing negotiations.
Iran meanwhile has accused Washington of placing “excessive demands” during peace talks while warning that any renewed attack would invite a stronger retaliation. Tehran continues to insist that it will not surrender its strategic capabilities under pressure. Diplomatic efforts involving Qatar and Pakistan are currently underway to avoid another escalation in the region.
The possibility of renewed strikes has also raised concerns in global energy markets. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes, and any disruption there could sharply impact crude prices, shipping costs, and international trade flows. Analysts believe prolonged instability in the region may trigger fresh volatility in global markets.

Reports indicate that U.S and Iranian negotiators are exploring a possible framework agreement that could temporarily prevent further conflict.
