27 Killed in Anti-Pakistan Protests in PoK

Report by Y-Trendz

Muzaffarabad/Rawalakot: Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) witnessed one of its deadliest episodes of unrest in recent years as at least 27 people were reportedly killed during anti-Pakistan protests and

the subsequent security crackdown. The violence erupted amid growing public anger over political representation, governance issues, and alleged suppression of dissent in the region.

According to reports, tensions escalated after clashes between protesters and security forces in Rawalakot and surrounding areas. Funeral gatherings for those killed in earlier incidents reportedly turned into fresh demonstrations, with protesters raising slogans against Pakistani authorities and demanding accountability.

Local activist groups alleged that security personnel opened fire on crowds attending funeral prayers, leading to a sharp rise in casualties. Several dozen people were also reported injured as violence spread across parts of PoK.

Pakistani authorities have presented a different account, stating that clashes involved members of a banned protest organisation and security personnel. Official reports confirmed multiple deaths and injuries, including casualties among police officers.

The latest bloodshed has intensified scrutiny of the situation in PoK, where demonstrations over political rights, economic grievances, and alleged human-rights violations have been growing in recent months. The unrest comes at a sensitive time ahead of regional political developments and elections.

Observers warn that the escalating confrontation could further destabilize the region unless meaningful dialogue is initiated between authorities and protest groups. Meanwhile, security forces remain on high alert as tensions continue to simmer across several districts of PoK.
