Over Alleged Communal Remarks
Report by Y-Trendz
Kolkata: An FIR has been registered against Mamata Banerjee over remarks that allegedly hurt religious sentiments and promoted communal disharmony, according to police officials. The complaint was filed at the Siliguri Cyber Crime Police Station by advocate Rinki Chattopadhyay Singh.
The complainant alleged that statements made by Banerjee during public events, including a religious gathering and a protest rally, were provocative in nature and offended the sentiments of followers of Sanatan Dharma. The complaint further claimed that the remarks had the potential to create communal tension.
Police have confirmed that an FIR has been registered and that an investigation is underway. Reports indicate that the case includes allegations related to promoting enmity and hurting religious sentiments, though authorities have not yet commented on the merits of the accusations.
Supporters of Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress have dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, while critics have demanded strict legal action and accountability. The controversy has intensified political debate in West Bengal ahead of key political developments in the state.
No official response from Banerjee regarding the FIR was immediately available. Legal experts note that the registration of an FIR marks the beginning of the investigative process and does not by itself establish guilt. The matter is expected to proceed through the judicial process in the coming weeks.
