Punjab Kings cricketer Shashank Singh and his father, retired Special DG of Police Shailesh Singh, were booked by the Ratibad Police in Bhopal on June 29 after their household cook, Vipendra Singh Tomar, filed a complaint alleging assault, verbal abuse, and illegal confinement.
According to the complaint, Tomar (31, from Rewa district) had joined the family's Neelbad bungalow as a cook on June 25 for a promised salary of ₹15,000 a month plus food and lodging. He alleged that complaints arose over the quality of food he prepared, and when he expressed a desire to quit, the family became angry. He claimed his phone was forcibly taken to stop him contacting anyone, and he was pressured to keep working. He then locked himself in a room, but the father, son, and their driver allegedly broke in and assaulted him. A medical exam reportedly found visible injury marks on his face and body.
The FIR names Shailesh Singh, Shashank Singh, and the family's driver (identified as Mishra) as accused. The case has been registered under Sections 296(B), 115(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita — covering verbal abuse/obscene acts, voluntarily causing hurt, and joint criminal liability respectively.
Police are investigating, and as of the latest reports neither Shashank Singh nor Shailesh Singh has issued a public statement. The allegations remain unproven at this stage.
