Mumbai ATS Busts Terror Module

Mumbai ATS Busts Terror Module; Suspects Shifted to Delhi for High-Level Interrogation

News Report:

In a major counter-terrorism breakthrough, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), in

coordination with the Delhi Police Special Cell, has apprehended multiple terror suspects from Mumbai and nearby areas. The accused have now been transported to Delhi for further interrogation as part of an expanding multi-state investigation into a suspected extremist network.

According to official sources, the joint operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs indicating the presence of a radicalised module operating in Mumbai. The suspects were arrested from locations including Kurla in central Mumbai and Khadavali in Thane district. During the raids, investigators recovered incriminating materials such as electronic devices, mobile phones, and documents believed to be linked to terror activities.

Authorities revealed that the arrested individuals are suspected to be part of a larger network engaged in online radicalisation and recruitment. Preliminary findings suggest that the module may have been operating under handlers based outside Maharashtra, with links possibly extending to Odisha and beyond.

Following their arrest, the suspects were immediately transferred to Delhi under tight security. Officials confirmed that the Delhi Police Special Cell has registered a case of criminal conspiracy and has taken over the interrogation to uncover the full extent of the network, including funding channels, digital communication trails, and potential targets.

Investigators are particularly focused on the role of online platforms in influencing and radicalising the accused. Early inputs indicate that the suspects may have been in contact with extremist handlers through encrypted messaging services and social media channels, raising concerns about the growing threat of digital radicalisation in urban centres.

In a related development, security agencies are also probing whether the module had plans to execute terror attacks in the national capital. Some reports suggest that the accused were exploring methods to assemble improvised explosive devices (IEDs), highlighting the seriousness of the threat that has now been averted.

Officials emphasized that the operation reflects enhanced coordination between state and central agencies in tackling terrorism. The case is expected to widen further as more suspects and handlers are identified during the ongoing interrogation in Delhi.

The arrests underscore the continued vigilance of Indian security agencies amid evolving terror threats, particularly those driven by online radicalisation and decentralized networks. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
