Ludhiana: Punjabi singer Inder Kaur was found dead in a canal near Ludhiana days after she was allegedly kidnapped, triggering shock and outrage across Punjab’s music industry and among her fans.
Police have launched a major murder investigation into the case following serious allegations made by her family.
The 29-year-old singer, whose real name was Yashinder Kaur, had reportedly been missing since May 13 after leaving her home to buy groceries. Her body was recovered from the Neelon Canal on Tuesday morning and later identified by family members at a local hospital.
According to the victim’s family, Inder Kaur was allegedly abducted at gunpoint by a man who had been pressuring her for marriage. Relatives claimed that she had rejected the proposal, after which threats and coercion allegedly intensified. The family suspects that the murder was pre-planned and linked to the rejected proposal.
Investigators reportedly found blood stains inside a vehicle connected to the case, strengthening suspicions of foul play. Punjab Police are examining CCTV footage, phone records, and forensic evidence while conducting raids to trace the main accused, who is believed to have fled abroad after the incident.
Police have already detained and questioned several individuals linked to the case, while senior officers stated that all angles — including kidnapping, conspiracy, and murder — are being investigated. The case has sparked widespread anger on social media, with many demanding strict punishment for those responsible.
The tragic death of Inder Kaur has once again raised concerns over women’s safety, stalking, and violence linked to forced relationships. Members of the Punjabi entertainment industry have expressed grief and demanded speedy justice for the young singer.
