Iran Not After Nuclear Weapons

Report by Y-Trendz

Iran has once again stated that it is not seeking to develop nuclear weapons, even as tensions continue over its nuclear programme and ongoing negotiations with the United States and Western powers.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian recently said Tehran is ready to “reassure the world” that its nuclear activities are meant for peaceful purposes and not for building atomic weapons. Iranian officials have repeatedly maintained that the country’s nuclear programme is focused on energy production, medical research, and civilian scientific development.

The latest statement comes amid sensitive diplomatic talks involving the United States, Iran, and regional mediators over a possible agreement linked to sanctions relief, maritime security, and nuclear restrictions.

Iran has also rejected reports suggesting that it agreed to surrender its enriched uranium stockpile as part of a draft understanding with Washington. Senior Iranian sources said no final agreement has yet been reached on the nuclear issue.

At the same time, U.S. President Donald Trump has insisted that Iran “can never have a nuclear weapon,” while saying negotiations should not be rushed.

The issue remains highly controversial internationally. Western governments and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) continue to monitor Iran’s uranium enrichment activities closely. Critics argue that Iran’s growing enrichment capability could shorten the time needed to build a bomb if the leadership ever chose to do so. Iran, however, denies any intention to weaponise its programme.

Iranian leaders also point to a long-standing religious decree, or fatwa, issued by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei against nuclear weapons, claiming it reflects the country’s official strategic position.

The developments come during a period of heightened geopolitical tension in West Asia, where concerns over nuclear proliferation, sanctions, maritime security, and regional conflicts continue to shape international diplomacy.
