The case surrounding the death of Twisha Sharma has now reached the Supreme Court of India, with the apex court scheduled to hear the matter amid growing national attention and demands for an impartial investigation.
The Supreme Court has reportedly taken suo motu cognisance of the case, citing concerns over alleged inconsistencies in the investigation and the wider public outrage surrounding the incident. A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant is expected to examine developments linked to the probe, allegations of dowry harassment, forensic procedures, and calls for a CBI investigation.
The case has generated widespread debate after Twisha Sharma was found dead at her in-laws’ residence in Bhopal earlier this month. What was initially described as a suicide soon turned into a highly sensitive legal and political issue after her family raised allegations of foul play and dowry harassment.
In recent days, investigators conducted a second autopsy under the supervision of experts from AIIMS Delhi following demands from the family and public pressure. Authorities also examined the residence and gathered additional forensic evidence as part of the ongoing probe.
The Mohan Yadav-led government has already indicated support for recommending a CBI inquiry into the matter.
Meanwhile, emotional scenes unfolded in Bhopal as Twisha Sharma’s last rites were performed after the completion of medical procedures and the second postmortem examination. Her family has continued to demand justice and transparency in the investigation.
Legal experts believe the Supreme Court’s intervention could significantly influence the direction of the investigation, especially regarding forensic scrutiny, institutional accountability, and the possibility of transferring the probe to central agencies.
The hearing is expected to be closely watched across the country as questions continue to emerge over the circumstances leading to Twisha Sharma’s death.
