Report By Y-TRENDZ
By Y-Trendz ITANAGAR: Normal life came to a grinding halt in the state capital today following a 24-hour total shutdown called by local organizations. The bandh, organized to protest against the unresolved and growing issue of illegal infiltration into the region, saw widespread compliance from
residents, completely paralyzing commercial and public activity across the city.Shops, business establishments, and market places remained tightly shuttered throughout the day. Streets that are usually buzzing with activity, including the prominent Bank Tinali junction, wore a completely deserted look. All forms of public transport stayed off the roads, leaving commuters stranded, while private vehicle movement was tracking at an absolute minimum. Educational institutions, government offices, and banking services also suspended operations for the day.
The shutdown was called to draw immediate government attention to the changing demographics and the perceived threat to local communities due to unchecked illegal migration. Leaders of the organizing bodies stated that repeated appeals for stricter border monitoring and inner-line enforcement had gone unheeded, forcing them to resort to a complete strike to make their voices heard.
While the atmosphere remained highly charged and communal tensions ran palpable, the shutdown passed off peacefully without any major reports of violence. A heavy deployment of state police and paramilitary personnel was maintained at all sensitive junctions to prevent any untoward incidents. Authorities continued to monitor the situation closely, urging citizens to maintain peace while organizations warned of further stir if their demands for a permanent solution to the infiltration row are not met.
