After 7 Hours of Grilling in Twisha Sharma Death Case
BHOPAL — In a major breakthrough in the high-profile Twisha Sharma death investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday took retired judge Giribala Singh into custody following a grueling seven-hour interrogation at her residence in Bhopal’s Bag Mughaliya Extension.
The Crackdown Following High Court Order
A specialized team from the CBI arrived at Singh’s residence early Thursday afternoon.
The agency's aggressive push for custody follows a decisive ruling by Justice Devnarayan Mishra of the MP High Court, who overturned a May 15 lower court order granting her protection.
Seven antemortem injuries uncovered during the post-mortem examination.
Volatile WhatsApp logs and phone records detailing persistent mental harassment, cruelty, and financial coercion.
Allegations that the accused non-cooperated with investigators despite receiving multiple formal notices.
A Marriage Cut Short: The Background
Twisha Sharma, a former Miss Pune, actor, and MBA graduate originally from Noida, married Bhopal-based lawyer Samarth Singh in December 2025. Just five months later, on May 12, 2026, her body was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan on the terrace of her matrimonial home.
The CBI took over the probe directly following instructions from the Supreme Court, re-registering an FIR against both Samarth Singh and his mother, Giribala Singh.
The agency's First Information Report paints a grim picture of domestic horror, detailing a demand of ₹2 lakh at the time of the wedding, continuous taunts that the marriage expenses were "below their standards," and systematic financial starvation. Crucially, the FIR alleges that when Twisha became pregnant in April, her in-laws aggressively pressured her to undergo an abortion while leveling malicious character assassination attempts against her.
Charging the Accused
The former judicial officer now finds herself on the other side of the bench, booked under rigorous provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.
Section 80(2): Dowry death
Section 85: Cruelty by husband or relatives
Section 3(5): Acts committed in furtherance of common intention
Sections 3 & 4 (Dowry Prohibition Act): Giving or demanding dowry
"First Step in the Battle for Justice"
Reacting to the arrest, the victim's father, Navnidhi Sharma, expressed profound gratitude toward the judiciary.
"I express my gratitude to those who have stood by us so far in this fight for justice. I pray that this marks just the first step in this battle. This has sent a profoundly positive message throughout society. I have confidence in the judicial process, specifically in the CBI, that they will unearth and bring the absolute truth to light," Sharma stated.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has strictly warned both families to refrain from speaking to the media or giving interviews to ensure the integrity of the ongoing, sensitive central probe remains uncompromised.
