The Maharashtra Cyber Police have initiated an investigation into viral videos linked to comedian Pranit More following widespread controversy over content circulated on social media platforms.
Authorities have registered an FIR against More and several others, alleging the publication and dissemination of obscene and objectionable material.
The investigation centers on clips from a stand-up comedy show that went viral online. One widely discussed video featured remarks by audience member Himanshu Jangra regarding consent and relationships, which drew significant public criticism. Cyber Police allege that the content contained offensive remarks concerning women, consent, and public decency, prompting legal action under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.
Investigators have issued summons to More, Jangra, and others connected to the videos for questioning and recording of statements. Officials are examining the creation, promotion, publication, and circulation of the content across digital platforms.
The controversy has also attracted the attention of the National Commission for Women, which has taken cognizance of the matter and summoned individuals involved in the viral clips.
In a recent public response, Pranit More acknowledged that he failed to intervene during the controversial exchange and described it as a significant mistake, while accepting criticism over his handling of the situation.
