Over 22.7 Lakh Medical Aspirants Set to Appear for Ultra-Secure NEET-UG Re-Exam Across India and Abroad

NEW DELHI — In what is being described as one of the most logistically intense academic operations in Indian history, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has finalized extensive multi-layered

arrangements for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for Sunday, June 21, 2026.

The nationwide pen-and-paper medical entrance test will witness a massive cohort of over 22.79 lakh candidates attempting the high-stakes exam across more than 5,500 highly monitored test centers spread across 551 cities in India and 14 international locations.

The re-test was necessitated after the initial May 3 examination was abruptly cancelled on May 12 by the Union Ministry of Education following extensive allegations of a coordinated paper leak and cheating syndicates. The ongoing criminal probe into the initial leak remains under the jurisdiction of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). • GPS-Escorted Logistics: Confidential question booklets and examination sheets are being moved across states in specialized, GPS-enabled vehicles. The transit routes are monitored in real-time, and transport vehicles are under continuous armed police escorts from secure bank vaults to designated venues.

• Aadhaar-Based Fingerprinting: In a bid to completely neutralize proxy test-takers and impersonators, every candidate will undergo high-sensitivity metal detection sweeps and mandatory Aadhaar-based biometric authentication at center entry gates.

• Live Digital Eye: All examination halls have been equipped with high-definition CCTV cameras feeding directly to centralized control rooms at the NTA Headquarters in New Delhi. Furthermore, advanced signal jammers have been deployed at every site to render rogue communication hardware useless.

Addressing the rising anxiety of candidates, NTA Director General Abhishek Singh issued a firm warning against ongoing bad-faith actors. • Enhanced Rough Work Space: Responding to feedback from the cancelled May 3 test, the NTA has entirely redesigned the question booklet layout. Two additional blank pages dedicated exclusively to rough work have been incorporated immediately following the main instruction segment.

• The "Fail-Safe" Manual Rule: To ensure that valid candidates are not unjustly turned away due to bad network connectivity or poor fingerprint resolution, the NTA clarified that no student will be denied entry due to biometric failure. Instead, centers will execute manual identity verification against physical state documents paired with a signed candidate undertaking.

Heatwave Precautions & Crucial Dress Code Mandates

The timing of the exam coincides with a severe summer block across the Indian subcontinent. In an urgent directive, Cabinet Secretary T.V. Somanathan reviewed infrastructural preparedness with chief state secretaries.

All 5,500+ examination centers have been ordered to secure dedicated generators to provide uninterrupted power supply for fans and lighting systems. The NTA has reiterated its uncompromising dress code policy. Candidates are instructed to wear light clothing, with slippers or low-heeled sandals preferred over thick-soled shoes or boots.

Crucially, the agency noted that candidates choosing to wear customary, cultural, or religious attire (such as hijabs, turbans, or specific faith symbols), as well as those wearing full-sleeved garments, must report to their centers precisely at 11:00 AM to allow for private, thorough, and respectful security screening before the gates lock permanently at 1:30 PM.

Medical Colleges Put on High Alert

In an unprecedented regulatory intervention, the National Medical Commission (NMC) issued a stern circular to the deans and principals of all medical colleges throughout the country.

"To protect the ultimate sanctity and fairness of the national entrance infrastructure, all medical colleges and institutions are hereby directed to strictly restrict and deny leave requests to their existing MBBS students on June 20 and June 21, except under verifiable medical emergencies," the NMC directive stated.

The move functions as an institutional deterrent following historical intelligence indicating that a small fraction of senior medical students have previously been co-opted by corrupt coaching syndicates to function as proxy candidates or leak conspirators.
