New Delhi, June 11: India has sharply escalated its response to recent US military strikes on commercial vessels operating near the Gulf of Oman, signaling one of its strongest diplomatic protests in recent years. New Delhi summoned a senior American diplomat after US strikes reportedly hit merchant ships carrying Indian crew members, leaving several sailors missing and triggering international concern.

The Ministry of External Affairs condemned the targeting of commercial shipping and stressed that civilian vessels and international trade routes must not become casualties of regional conflicts. India called for the immediate restoration of free and unhindered navigation through international waterways in accordance with international law.
