6 Naga Hostages Found Dead, Bodies Reportedly Mutilated
Report by Y-Trendz
Imphal: Manipur has been rocked by fresh violence after the bodies of six Naga civilians, who were abducted nearly a month ago, were recovered during a large-scale security operation in Kangpokpi district. The discovery has triggered outrage across Naga communities and renewed fears of escalating ethnic tensions in the state.
According to Manipur Police, the six men were among those taken hostage on May 13 during clashes linked to the ongoing Naga-Kuki conflict. Their remains were recovered after an intensive search involving hundreds of personnel from the police, CRPF and Assam Rifles. Investigations are continuing and forensic examinations are underway.
Several media reports and community sources have alleged that the victims were tortured before being killed and that the bodies were found in a severely mutilated and dismembered condition. Authorities are working to establish all facts through forensic investigations.
The incident comes just days after 14 Kuki hostages held by Naga groups were released, raising hopes of de-escalation. Instead, the recovery of the six bodies has reignited tensions and prompted widespread calls for justice.
The United Naga Council has condemned the killings and demanded accountability, while civil society groups across the Northeast have called for a swift and impartial investigation. The North East Students' Organisation (NESO) has also urged authorities to identify and prosecute those responsible without delay.
Security has been tightened across sensitive areas of Manipur as officials seek to prevent further violence. The incident underscores the fragile security situation in the state and the urgent need for lasting peace among the region's communities.
