Over Lebanon Escalation
Report by Y-Trendz
Washington, June 2: A sharp disagreement has reportedly emerged between U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over Israel's military actions in Lebanon,
highlighting growing tensions between the two leaders amid efforts to prevent a wider regional conflict.
According to multiple media reports citing U.S. officials, Trump expressed anger during a phone conversation with Netanyahu after Israel considered expanding operations and possible strikes in Beirut. Sources claimed Trump described Netanyahu as “crazy” and warned that further escalation could isolate Israel internationally and jeopardize ongoing diplomatic efforts in the region.
The reported exchange came as Iran threatened to abandon negotiations with Washington if attacks on Lebanon continued. Trump is said to have pressed Netanyahu to avoid actions that could derail talks aimed at reducing tensions across the Middle East.
Following the conversation, Trump announced that no Israeli troops would enter Beirut and that forces reportedly moving toward the Lebanese capital had been turned back. He also claimed that indirect contacts with Hezbollah had helped secure a commitment to halt further attacks, though the situation on the ground remains fluid.
Netanyahu, however, maintained that Israel reserves the right to strike targets in Beirut if Hezbollah continues attacks on Israeli territory. He reiterated that Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon would continue as planned.
The episode underscores the delicate balance Washington is attempting to maintain between supporting Israel's security concerns and preventing a broader regional war involving Lebanon, Hezbollah, and Iran. Diplomatic efforts to preserve a ceasefire and restart negotiations are expected to continue in the coming days.
