IRGC Claims Cruise Missile Strike

on ‘U.S.-Owned’ Vessel in Arabian Gulf

Report by Y-Trendz

Tehran, June 2: Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for a cruise missile strike on the Panama-flagged container ship MSC Sariska V, describing the vessel as

"U.S.-owned" and stating that the attack was carried out in retaliation for an earlier strike on an Iranian vessel near the coast of Oman.

According to Iranian media reports, the vessel was struck while operating in the Arabian Gulf, triggering a large explosion. The incident comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States over maritime security and military activities in and around the Strait of Hormuz.

However, maritime authorities have not independently confirmed the IRGC's version of events. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that a cargo vessel had been hit by an "unknown projectile," while Iraqi sources said the ship suffered an explosion near Umm Qasr after cargo operations. Investigations into the exact cause of the blast are continuing.

The latest incident adds to growing instability in Gulf shipping lanes, where several vessels have reportedly come under attack in recent weeks. Commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important energy corridors, remains under close watch as regional tensions continue to escalate.

Security analysts warn that any further attacks on commercial shipping could disrupt global trade and energy markets, increasing pressure on diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing a wider regional conflict.
