Rome: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rome on Tuesday evening for an important diplomatic visit aimed at strengthening India’s ties with European nations and enhancing cooperation in trade, technology, defence, and global strategic affairs.
The visit comes at a time when India is expanding its engagement with key Western partners amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.
Prime Minister Modi received a ceremonial welcome upon arrival and was greeted by senior Italian officials and members of the Indian diaspora. Large groups of Indian community members gathered outside the hotel venue waving Indian flags and chanting slogans welcoming the Prime Minister to Italy.
During the visit, PM Modi is expected to hold bilateral discussions with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni focusing on economic cooperation, clean energy partnerships, defence manufacturing, semiconductor investments, and maritime security in the Mediterranean and Indo-Pacific regions. Officials from both countries are also expected to discuss ways to increase bilateral trade and deepen collaboration in advanced technologies.
Sources indicate that the leaders may review progress under the India–Italy strategic partnership framework and explore new investment opportunities for Italian companies in India’s infrastructure, green energy, and manufacturing sectors. Cooperation in artificial intelligence, space research, and supply chain resilience is also likely to figure prominently in the talks.
The Prime Minister’s visit to Rome is being closely watched internationally as India continues to strengthen relations with European powers while balancing its strategic interests across multiple global blocs. Analysts believe the visit reflects India’s growing diplomatic influence and its push to position itself as a major global economic and geopolitical player.
PM Modi is also expected to interact with business leaders and members of the Indian community during his stay before continuing with the next phase of his international engagements.
