Report by Y-Trendz
Senior Congress leader V. D. Satheesan is set to take oath as the new Chief Minister of Kerala today, marking a major political shift in the state after the recently concluded Assembly elections.
The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) secured a decisive mandate in the Kerala Assembly polls, paving the way for Satheesan’s elevation to the top post. Party leadership formally approved his name after consultations with senior leaders in New Delhi and Thiruvananthapuram.
The swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place at Raj Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram in the presence of senior Congress leaders, alliance partners, governors, political dignitaries, and thousands of party workers. Tight security arrangements have been put in place across the state capital ahead of the event.
Known for his aggressive opposition politics and strong organizational role within the Congress party, Satheesan emerged as the consensus choice for the Chief Minister’s post after the UDF’s victory. Political observers believe his leadership style, anti-incumbency campaign, and focus on governance issues played a key role in the alliance’s electoral success.
Speaking after being elected leader of the UDF legislative party, Satheesan reportedly said the new government would prioritize:
Employment generation
Economic revival
Welfare delivery
Infrastructure development
Corruption-free governance
Youth and startup ecosystem growth
Congress leaders described the transition as the beginning of a “new political chapter” in Kerala politics.
Meanwhile, celebrations erupted across several parts of Kerala as Congress workers gathered with party flags, drums, and victory rallies ahead of the oath-taking ceremony.
The new cabinet is also expected to include representatives from key UDF allies, with portfolio discussions continuing until the final announcement.
With today’s swearing-in, V. D. Satheesan will officially become one of the prominent Congress Chief Ministers currently leading opposition-ruled states in India.
