BJP & CPI(M) Clashes in Thiruvananthapuram

— News Report By Y-Trendz

1. 🔴 Nettayam Violence — BJP vs CPI(M) Workers (April 2026)

A complaint over the alleged verbal abuse of a BJP leader's wife at Malamukal in Nettayam escalated into a violent clash between CPI(M) and BJP workers, leaving several injured, including police personnel. The incident began after the wife of a BJP worker alleged she was subjected to lewd remarks and indecent exposure.

By around 7:30 pm, more BJP workers from nearby areas reached Malamukal. Their presence was questioned by local residents, reportedly led by CPI(M) workers, leading to a tense face-off that quickly escalated. Workers from both sides allegedly hurled stones and attacked each other using wooden sticks. Police personnel who arrived to control the situation also came under attack — Civil Police Officers Deepu, Shibin and Station House Officer Vipin A C sustained injuries.

The Vattiyoorkavu police registered multiple cases against workers of both parties. Over 40 were booked. Additional forces from Cantonment and Museum police stations were deployed as the situation worsened.

2. 🔴 ED Raid on Pinarayi Vijayan — CPI(M) vs Security Forces (May 27, 2026)

CPI(M) workers allegedly attacked a vehicle carrying Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in Thiruvananthapuram while protesting raids conducted at properties linked to former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his daughter in connection with an alleged pay-off case. Protesters stopped the ED vehicle and damaged its windshield using bricks and iron rods while shouting slogans against the central agency.

As ED officials emerged from the residence, protesters hurled stones, bottles and wooden planks at the ED convoy, which was protected by CRPF personnel. At least three vehicles were damaged. Some protesters also snatched helmets from police personnel and hurled them at CRPF personnel stationed inside the compound.

Tensions then flared at the CPI(M) Palayam Area Committee office as Kerala Police sought to enter the premises, claiming some of the accused involved in the attack were hiding inside. CPI(M) workers and leaders, including V Sivankutty, V Joy and John Brittas MP, initially opposed police entry. After senior officers held discussions with party leaders, some of the accused walked out and were arrested. An FIR was registered and seven persons arrested.

The ED searches are connected to alleged financial transactions involving Exalogic Solutions, a company owned by Vijayan's daughter Veena Vijayan. Investigators are probing claims that CMRL paid nearly Rs 1.72 crore to the firm between 2017–18 and 2018–19 despite no services allegedly being provided.

3. 🔴 CPI(M) Protests BJP Councillor's Arrest (June 2026)

The CPI(M) staged a protest outside the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation office against a BJP councillor facing preventive detention under the KAAPA, who was recently arrested in the state capital following dramatic scenes. CPI(M) councillor S P Deepak, who led the protest, alleged that BJP councillor Sugathan had been facing several criminal cases over the past six to seven years and had been absent from council meetings for two months to evade arrest.

Background Context

The BJP-led NDA recently won the Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation in local body polls, ending over four decades of rule by the CPI(M)-led LDF, making the city a prime flashpoint for political rivalry between the two parties.

CPI(M) accused the BJP-led central government of using investigative agencies against political opponents, while BJP maintained that the ED actions were part of legitimate legal proceedings.
