Trump's Warning

Washington: Donald Trump has issued a sharp new warning to Iran, raising tensions in the Middle East amid stalled negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear programme and regional security issues.

The US President signalled that Washington is weighing two possible paths — a final agreement with Iran or stronger military action if diplomacy fails.

Speaking during an address at the US Coast Guard Academy, Trump said the United States had already severely damaged Iran’s military capabilities and warned that the next step depended on Tehran’s response. “The only question is, do we finish it up or will they sign a document?” Trump remarked, referring to ongoing negotiations with Iran.

Trump claimed that Iran’s naval and air power had been “largely destroyed” following previous American military operations and stated that Washington “may have to hit them even harder” if a settlement is not reached. He reiterated that the United States would not permit Iran to acquire nuclear weapons under any circumstances.

The remarks come as diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran remain deadlocked over nuclear restrictions, sanctions relief, and regional security guarantees. Reports indicate that Gulf nations including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates have urged both sides to avoid military escalation and continue negotiations through mediators.

Iran reacted cautiously to Trump’s comments, warning that any renewed American military strike could trigger wider regional consequences. Iranian officials reportedly accused Washington of using threats to pressure Tehran during sensitive negotiations.

Global markets and strategic observers are closely monitoring the developments due to fears that further escalation could disrupt oil supplies and destabilise the Gulf region. Analysts say the latest exchange of warnings highlights the fragile nature of diplomacy between the two longtime rivals.

Despite the aggressive rhetoric, diplomatic channels reportedly remain open, with mediators continuing efforts to secure a framework agreement that could reduce regional tensions and prevent another major conflict in West Asia.
